Portland airport has been named the best domestic hub in the US, according to a new survey of airline passengers.

The Oregon airport came top of a poll with flyers who praised its 'user friendly' experience and 'frustration-free' security.

It came ahead of both Indianapolis and Minneapolis airports, which were also highly rated by travellers.

The survey of US airports was carried out by magazine Travel and Leisure who asked readers where they had the most enjoyable travel experiences as part of its World Best 2018 awards.

Portland clinched top spot in the US domestic airports categoryafter respondents said the airport had diverse food and entertainment options with one saying it had 'affordable retail minus the usual airport surcharges.'

Coming in second is Indianapolis International Airport with Travel and Leisure saying multiple respondents commented on how it never feels crowded.

It is closely followed by Minneapolis International, which boasts a bakery selling gourmet doughnuts.

Tampa International is fourth on the list thanks to its public art programme while fifth is Pittsburgh International.

Following in sixth is Austin Bergstrom in Texas, famed for its hand-crafted ice cream and then Savannah Hilton Head airport, Georgia and John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

Rounding off the top ten is Palm Beach International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport.

Earlier this year, the best airport in the world was named as Singapore's Changi Airport at Skytrax’s World Airport Awards.

South Korea's Incheon International Airport and Tokyo Haneda rounded out the top three.
