A shocking video of an angry driver hurling a torrent of abuse at a paramedic for blocking a street has emerged today amid growing outrage at attacks on ambulance staff.

The irate motorist called a female paramedic a 'f*****g idiot' because her vehicle was blocking his path on the corner of Union Street and Sewell Street in Runcorn, Cheshire.

Apparently unconcerned that the emergency workers were trying to save someone's life, the man tells the paramedic to 'do her f*****g job properly' and complains that the ambulance does not have its hazards on - before driving off in the opposite direction.

It is the latest shocking attack on ambulance staff to emerge after a motorist posted an angry note on an emergency vehicle that was blocking his drive while staff battled to save a dying patient in the house inside in Birmingham.

In that incident, an unidentified driver posted a note that said: 'I know you're saving lives but don't park your van in a stupid place and block my drive.'

The 42-year-old man died after he was found vomiting blood and rushed to hospital. West Midlands Ambulance Service say they were at the address for no longer than 30 minutes.

One of the paramedics who tried to save his life was Tasha Starkey, who posted a picture of the note on Twitter.

The note said: 'You may be saving lives, but don't park your van in a stupid place and block my drive'

Video of the new incident in Cheshire was posted to Facebook by Ami Garner and it has caused outrage, racking up 813K Views, 3,000 comments and 12,978 shares in just 18 hours.

The video starts with the man arguing with the North West Ambulance paramedic, telling her that motorists turning the corner are unaware that an ambulance is obstructing the road and suggesting the staff should have stopped to put signs out.

The paramedic sardonically suggests that he opens his eyes to see the huge luminous yellow vehicle which would indicate its presence on the road.

'Where's the f*****g hazards? All you need is a blue light,' he rants angrily.

The man swears repeatedly while insulting the woman. 'F*****g idiot, go do your f*****g job properly,' he says before driving off in the opposite direction.

The irate motorist was more concerned with the ambulance blocking his path on the corner of Union Street and Sewell Street in Runcorn, Cheshire than that the NHS workers were rushing to potentially save someone’s life

A North West Ambulance spokesperson told MailOnline: 'How do you find the words to comment on the actions of this individual when crews are treating someone who could have been in a life critical condition?

'This man needs to ask himself how he would feel if it was his grandparent, mum, dad or child that we were treating, would he be happy that we waste precious time searching for a better parking space?

'Our staff work day and night to save lives, and do not deserve abuse from anyone for something as trivial as blocking a minor road.

The Cheshire man's rant is the third abusive tirade at ambulance staff to emerge over the last three days.

In addition to the incident in Cheshire and the disgruntled note in Birmingham, West Midlands Ambulance service also reported that one selfish motorist demanded that paramedics who were treating a heart attack patient move their ambulance because it was blocking their drive.

The driver's unbelievable request came just hours after another motorist left a rude note on the windscreen of an ambulance from the same NHS trust telling them to park elsewhere.

New law proposed to protect emergency service workers

A new Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill will double the maximum sentence for common assault from six months to a year if committed against an on duty emergency worker.

The Bill will begin Committee stage in the House of Commons this Wednesday where it will be examined in detail.

In England and Wales there are specific offences for assaulting on-duty police officers, prison officers, and immigration officers.

However there is no specific offence for assault of emergency workers or NHS staff.

Such assaults would instead be prosecuted using one of the general criminal offences against the person.

However the new bill would change this and make it a more serious offence to assault any on duty emergency worker.

Labour MP Chris Bryant proposed the bill which has been supported by Government.

Mr Bryant, who presented the bill in the Commons in July, previously said: 'The way our emergency workers are treated is a national disgrace.

'They are spat at, punched, attacked or even stabbed whilst they are trying to save other people's lives.

'But the shocking fact is that such appalling acts of violence attract no harsher penalty than an attack on an ordinary member of the public - and often no prosecution is brought.'
