A world champion and a silver medallist female kickboxer both drowned in a swimming tragedy in Crimea after one jumped in the water to save the other during a storm.
Fatima Zhagupova, 33, and Elina Gismeeva, 27, died in stormy seas off the Russian Black Sea naval port of Sevastopol.
The Russian pair were respectively the world champion and runner-up in last year's world series listings from the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations.
Reports say one of the women jumped off a pier at the Yug yacht club in Sevastopol despite a storm warning.

Both women screamed for help, but the emergency services were unable to reach the pier by sea because the of the strength of the storm, said the local Emergencies Ministry.
When the rescuers arrived at the site on Sunday evening, they saw the lifeless body of one of the women floating in the bay.
A local official in the city said: 'A wave must have thrown her hard against the pier. The other girl saw it and jumped to the rescue.'
A search operation continued early today and both bodies were retrieved by 10.45am.
The location where they jumped into the waves was not a designated swimming area, said officials.
The women fighters were known to be friends despite being rivals in the ring.
Gismeeva, also a prominent kickboxing coach, was born in the Arctic city of Murmansk.

Her distraught father Almaz Gismeev today confirmed his daughter's death.
A video shows Zhagupova, from the Caucasus region of Kabardino-Balkaria, beating an Israeli fighter, and Gismeeva in training.
Confirming the deaths, Emergencies Ministry official Alexander Veselkov, said: 'Despite a warning of stormy weather, two women drowned while swimming, a Moscow resident born in 1986, and a resident of Murmansk born in 1992.
'One is the current world kickboxing champion, the second is the vice champion.
'According to preliminary details, one girl jumped from a pier into the stormy sea - into a wave.
'It is likely she was hit against the pier. The second girl rushed to save her.'
A week ago a male ex-champion in kickboxing was shot dead in the Russian city of St Petersburg.
Sergey Karpenko, 51, went missing on 23 July, his body with a bullet wound in the head was found on 28 July.
Crimea is a Black Sea peninsula annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.
