Google and Amazon have removed online listings for firearm accessories that directly contradict their sales policies after two mass shootings over the weekend.

Gun accessories could be seen on each of the sellers' marketplaces as recently as Monday.

The Washington Post reported shotgun rounds like the Hornady Critical Defense set and hollow-point ammunition were listed on Google's marketplace.

Google previously banned the sale of firearms and firearm accessories on May 31, 2012. The ban included guns, ammunition, tobacco and knives.

After The Washington Post contacted Google, the company removed some of its listings, including a box of Remington hallow-point rounds and Hornady rounds.

Those products could be found by searching 'ammunition' and clicking the option 'buy with Google.'

Google also removed some results found under 'rifle magazine',  'ammunition belt' and a 100-round, double drum magazine similar to the one used in the Dayton, Ohio mass shooting.

AR-15 bump stocks were listed in Google's marketplace in 2018. AR-15 style rifles have been used in past mass shootings, including the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

Caroline Klapper-Matos, a spokeswoman from Google toldThe Washington Post: 'The sale of weapons, guns, and certain gun parts is strictly prohibited on Google Shopping. As soon as we found policy-violating results, we removed them and are working to prevent these instances from reoccurring.'

In Amazon's Sellers Central, the policy lists dozens of banned items related to gun use, including magazine loaders, cinches, extensions and kits that can be used to create gun magazines.

Amazon reportedly shipped the item, costing $45.99, to customer itself, suggesting it stored such items in one of the company's warehouses.

On Tuesday, Amazon removed listings for some rifle magazines after being notified Monday.

A representative from Amazon says the products in question has been removed from the site and reasserted the company's guidelines.

'All sellers are required to follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account,' the representative said.

Despite Google's attempt to clean up the market place, some objects like gun grips and 'real looking' fake rifles can be found.

Amazon still has some listings under 'rifle magazines', like a sponsored result for a .22 caliber air rifle from Crosman.

The crackdown on the items being sold comes after two mass shootings at the weekend.
