No mention of the secret Facebook ICE groups that posted vile comments about the people they are responsible for and no mention of the DHS Inspector General's report detailing the horrific conditions at the border camps.
People who come to the U.S. border to petition for asylum, are not illegals nor are they doing anything illegal. U.S. law is clear about this. Cutting foreign aid to Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, was pretty damned wrong headed thing to do. Just listening to the former had of ICE who is parroting the exact same bullshit as Trump, blaming the migrants and Democrats.
I don't know why Trump keeps saying that this crisis can be "easily fixed by Democrats" but prior to 2018 when both houses of Congress were in Republican hands and Central Americans were flooding the border to petition for asylum, Republicans did nothing.
This former ICE Director was making the case that the entire system was overloaded, backed-up, jammed. Not exactly a Breaking News Headline. When questioned about the Inspector General's report, "I haven't read it" quite conveniently so.
As time goes on the the situation and conditions get worse, and they will, I have a feeling that the Trump Administration is not going to emerge from this with anything like a win. All we need is a few more deaths of folks in custody or crossing the Rio Grande and Trump's signature campaign policy is toast.
Take Care. But Do Remember That Applying For Asylum - and you have to present yourself at a border station in order to do so - Is Not Illegal. One of my good friends did exactly this several years ago and was successful.
