President Donald Trump suggested Rep. Ilhan Omar was 'married to her brother' on Wednesday, ratcheting up his attacks on the four Democratic women of color known as the 'squad'.

He made the baseless claim during an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn shortly before he departed for a campaign event, reigniting a false rumor that first surfaced during Omar's victorious state Senate campaign in 2016.

A reporter from a right-wing news channel asked the president 'if the administration was looking into possible immigration fraud committed by Ilhan Omar for possibly marrying her brother.'

'Well there's a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother,' Trump said.

'I know nothing about it, I hear that she was married to her brother, you're asking me a question about it. I don't know but I'm sure that somebody would be looking at that.'

The outrageous statement dates back to Omar's campaign for the Minnesota legislature, when several conservative blogs accused her of illegally marrying her brother so he could gain American citizenship.

The Somali-American vehemently denied the allegations at the time, calling them 'disgusting lies' that 'are absolutely false and ridiculous.'

She said she believed the rumor was first circulated by people who wanted to stop a black, female Muslim from sitting in Congress.

Omar is one of the four congresswomen Trump tweeted should 'go back' to their countries of origin on Sunday, prompting the House of Representatives to condemn his 'racist' tweets.

Trump warned members of the 'squad' he'd be talking about them at his rally in North Carolina on Wednesday night.

'Big Rally tonight in Greenville, North Carolina. Lots of great things to tell you about, including the fact that our Economy is the best it has ever been. Best Employment & Stock Market Numbers EVER. I'll talk also about people who love, and hate, our Country (mostly love)! 7:PM,' the president wrote on Twitter.

His rally was originally scheduled for the night special counsel Robert Mueller was going to testify before Congress.

Mueller's testimony, however, got pushed back a week.

But the rally will go on.

And Trump's feud with Democrats and the charges of racism against him will give him plenty of meat to feed his supporters particularly after the House voted 240-187 to condemn his words as 'racist.'

Also, adding fuel to the fire, the House voted on Wednesday to table a resolution calling for impeachment proceedings against President Trump, effectively killing the measure.

The vote — 332 to 95, with one lawmaker voting 'present' — marked the first time the Democratic-controlled chamber had weighed in on impeachment.

Trump blasted the vote on Twitter, calling it 'the most ridiculous and time consuming project I have ever had to work on'.

The vote is sure to be used by him to whip up the crowd at the Smith-Williams Arena at East Carolina University, which has a capacity of 8,000 people.

A local CBS station showed supporters lined up waiting to get in on Wednesday morning, wearing their red Make America Great Again hats and waving 'Trump Keep America Great 2020' signs.

Mueller may not be testifying but he's also a favorite punching bag of the president's, who claims he is the victim of a witch hunt, and could easily come up in Wednesday's remarks.

It's unclear if the Trump campaign will schedule a rally for July 24, which is the new date for Mueller's testimony.

Wednesday's rally marks his first campaign event since he formally kicked off his 2020 re-election bid in Florida last month.

Trump's daughter-in-law Lara is from North Carolina and helped deliver the state to him in the last presidential election.

The president won North Carolina by four points over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The state is set to be competitive in the upcoming presidential election.

Wednesday's rally marks the third he's held in North Carolina since he took office.

Lara Trump, who serves as an official adviser to the president's 2020 re-election campaign, appeared at his last campaign rally in the state and could make an appearance Wednesday night after she launched a Women for Trump initiative in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

Vice President Mike Pence will also be on stage with Trump Wednesday night.

Pence is in the state to speak with soldiers at Fort Bragg and attend a fundraiser in Fayetteville earlier in the day.
