A South Carolina woman has been arrested for allegedly lying to police about her missing husband.

Irene Clodfelter, 74, was charged by Georgetown County Sherrif's Office on Saturday with two counts of obstructing justice in relation to the disappearance of her 85-year-old spouse, Hubert Clodfelter.

On March 15, Irene and Hubert's daughter filed a missing person's report with police, claiming she hadn't spoken to her father in two years.

The Clodfelters' daughter, who lives in Florida, told cops that each time she tried to contact her father on his cell phone, her mother would answer instead.

She further claimed that she spoke to her parents' neighbors, none of whom had seen Hubert in two years.

When she asked her mother about her father's whereabouts, the daughter was told that he was 'traveling or running from the law', according to a report in WLTX 19.

However, when police questioned Irene about her missing husband in March, she insisted that she had seen him just days earlier.

Authorities now believe she was thwarting their attempts to locate Hubert, leading to Saturday's obstruction of justice charges.

The charges came just one day after human remains were discovered at an RV park in neighboring Horry County.
