Shae Francis disappeared last year, police now believe her partner killed her
A Victorian man is expected to be charged with the manslaughter of his 35-year-old partner Shae Francis, who hasn't been seen since October last year.
Police arrested the 44-year-old man in Victoria on Friday, after an investigation by homicide detectives into the Hervey Bay woman's disappearance.
The Queensland Police Service will apply to extradite the man in Bendigo Magistrates Court this morning, and it's expected he will be charged with manslaughter, interfering with a corpse and stealing.
Police will allege the stealing charge related to property of Ms Francis.
The woman was last seen when she visited her mother at the Hervey Bay Hospital at the beginning of October last year.
But Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said Ms Francis wasn't reported missing by her mother until March.
"Her mum is obviously devastated, when someone goes missing, you still live in hope as a parent that they will be found safe and well," Detective Inspector Pettiford said.
"We believe that her daughter has met with foul play and she won't be returning home to her mum.
"She was estranged from her mum, she didn't have that close a relationship and just due to circumstances they didn't keep in touch a great deal."
Detective Pettiford said the man was originally from Victoria, but had moved to Hervey Bay with Ms Francis, where they had lived in a unit block together for about six months.
"We confirmed that her and her partner, who is the person of interest in this matter, were living at a residential address here in Hervey Bay during, or before that time she went missing," he said.
"[The] last official person to see her was her mum in early October, she was then seen a short period after that by residents of the unit complex, in which she was living here in Hervey Bay."
Police will allege the man fled to Brisbane, where he remained for a short time before heading to Victoria.
Detectives are still appealing for people with information about Ms Francis's disappearance to come forward, as police continue to search for her body.
"We'll continue to investigate that, but we never give up, we always keep going and we'll keep searching for her into the future," Detective Inspector Pettiford said.
He said Ms Francis may have lost up to 40 kilograms, since the last photo of her was taken.
