Linda Sue Godejohn, 55, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Thursday

A Houston school bus driver accused of drink driving with children on board has insisted that she wasn’t actually drunk, instead attributing her questionable driving to a bad donut she had eaten hours earlier.

Linda Sue Godejohn, 55, was charged with driving while intoxicated after police say she ‘miserably’ failed a sobriety test when she was pulled over in Spring, Texas, on Thursday.

Police were alerted to Godejohn’s allegedly erratic driving after a motorist dialed 911 to report that the bus had turned a corner so sharply it ‘almost rolled over’.

Authorities say as many as 30 students from the YES Prep Public School’s North Forest campus were aboard the bus at the time they pulled Godejohn over.

‘We ended up getting the bus driver out of the bus, giving her a field sobriety test, which she flunked miserably, and she was immediately placed into custody,’ Constable Mark Herman told Click2 Houston.

Godejohn was released from the Harris County Jail on Friday morning, after posting her $100 bail.

Speaking to reporters upon her release, Godejohn claimed that the whole ordeal had been a terrible misunderstanding.

She wasn’t drunk, she reaffirmed, as she claims to have not touched a drop of alcohol for several years.

Instead, Godejohn says she was actually battling an upset stomach in the lead up to her arrest, caused by donut she'd eaten earlier in the day.

‘My stomach was just hurting so bad that a wheel fell off the thing, the curb,’ Godejohn said. 'That's all it was, and going 45 mph, it’s going to whip back.’

When questioned why she failed the sobriety test, she replied: ‘Because it's hard, I mean I couldn't even do it right now.’

Godejohn added words of comfort to the children’s parents, insisting they shouldn’t worry because their kids are in safe hands and they’ve been riding in her bus without incident all year.

The majority of the children on Godejohn’s bus were 14-years-old. However, investigators later discovered there was a 13-year-old aboard, which could see the 55-year-old’s charges become even more serious.

‘We discovered that one of the children on the bus was under the age of 14 which triggers a higher charge a felony charge for DWI,’ said Sean Teare of the Harris County District Attorney's Office .

Teare said prosecutors will now seek to charge her with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, carrying further implications.

Godejohn’s employer, First Student Buses, says she has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the police’s investigation

Investigators said a blood sample taken from the accused has been sent off for analysis to determine whether she was actually intoxicated or not.

Godejohn’s employer, First Student Buses, says she has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the police’s investigation.

‘The driver was immediately removed from service pending the outcome of the investigation. Safety of the students we transport is paramount. First Student is partnering with the local authorities. Since this is an active investigation, we are unable to comment further.’
