Man wrestling with best friend on street dies after being hit by car

The family of a Gold Coast man who died after being hit by a car on Sunday night say they're "absolutely devastated" that a fight between two friends led to him losing his life.

Luke Hansen, 25, and another man were struck at Elanora just before 9:00pm while the pair were wrestling in the middle of the road.

The second 25-year-old man suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Mr Hansen's aunt Sharon Hansen said the two men had been best friends since school and had been fishing at the beach earlier in the day.

"They had a really beautiful afternoon," she said.

Ms Hansen said her nephew was a "playful kid".

"Luke was a beautiful boy, he had a lot of friends … very spirited and enjoyed life," she said.

His father Glen Hansen said the two friends' "stupidity" led to the tragedy.

"Kids these days they argue over anything, wrestle over anything … it just turned out the wrong way," he said.

Mr Hansen said his son was about to move to Mackay for work.

"He was just about to do a course to go to the mines next week — his new life," he said.

Police said the 33-year-old driver stopped at the scene to help and has not been charged with any offence.

Paramedics said the man and other witnesses performed CPR until ambulances arrived.

Queensland Ambulance Service's Garry Berkowitz said the driver wasn't physically injured.

"He was very shook up as you would imagine," he said.

Investigations are continuing and police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
