Firefighters in Millbury, Massachusetts shot amazing photos of a tree that was struck by lightning early Saturday morning.

The fire department received a call at 4.43am Saturday about the smoldering tree at Clearview Country Club in the rural town 41 miles west of Boston.

Responders found the inside of the hollowed out tree glowing bright orange.

'The tree apparently took a lightning strike during the night and was burning deeply on arrival' the department wrote on its Facebook page.

After snapping a few pictures, the firefighters extinguished the smoldering wood with water from a fire hose

The fire department received a call at 4.43am Saturday about the smoldering tree at Clearview Country Club in the rural town 41 miles west of Boston

'You can see the ash pit at the base inside the tree and how hot that even was,' the firefighters wrote in another post.

'There was a steady breeze blowing right into the opening of the tree, basically fanning the fire. 

After snapping a few pictures, the firefighters extinguished the smoldering wood with water from a fire hose.
