The aircraft carrier, named after the 16th president of the United States is leaving its port in Norfolk, Virginia, for its new deployment.
The Navy won't give a precise route the carrier group will take, according to The Virginian-Pilot, but it's expected to circumnavigate the Earth on the way to its new home in San Diego, California.
'We're doing the maiden deployment of the second half of the ship's life,' said the commanding officer, Capt. Putnam Browne.

In order to be less predictable, the Navy changed how it deploys its carrier groups.
'I hope that we're going to do some interesting things and I expect that this will be a very interesting deployment,' Capt. Browne said.
Some of the Navy families have already left the East Coast for their new homes, according to the newspaper.

The Lincoln was also part of Operation Fiery Vigil after the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. The operation was the largest peacetime evacuation of active duty military personnel and family members on record.
It also hosted the infamous 'Mission Accomplished' banner and speech by President George W. Bush in 2003 where he announced that major combat operations in Iraq had come to an end.
