Fashion designer Marc Jacobs has put his townhouse in New York's trendy West Village up for sale, with a price tag of $15.995million.

Jacobs acquired the fashionable pad, which covers 4,346 square feet, when it was brand new in 2009 for $10.5million.

The interiors were designed to be the height of luxury living by Thad Hayes, John Gachot and Paul Fortune.

So tasteful was the property that it was included in the September 2016 issue of Architectural Digest where it was fittingly described as 'impeccably composed'.

The townhouse is furnished with a superb collection of artworks including Richard Prince, Gerhard Richter, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Peyton and John Currin according to Variety.

Spread out across four floors, the townhouse has three en suite bedrooms along with three full and two half bathrooms. There is also a basement and roof terrace.

An Art Deco-inspired staircase leads to a 450-square foot living room that spans the full width of the townhouse.

There is a silver-leafed ceiling and a bright mica-covered fireplace. Three French doors also open out onto a balcony complete with a spiral staircase that drops down to a garden below.

Despite the vast amount of space, a galley-style kitchen feels rather small.

Downstairs by the garden is a small study, a second kitchen, a den with a fireplace and a floor-to-ceiling windows that slide open to a patch of greenery filled with sculptures and white hydrangeas.

On the top fourth floor are two en suite guest bedrooms, while the master bedroom takes over the entirety of the third level of the property.

The master suite consists of a bedroom, bathroom, a lounge area and a walk-in mahogany-paneled wardrobe that is more like a corridor.

Listing agent Chris Poore at Sotheby's International Realty told the Wall Street Journal that Jacobs, who still owns a property in Paris, is looking to 'downsize his footprint in Manhattan'.

He plan to split his time between a smaller home in New York and a $9.2million Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home he and his new husband recently bought in the posh New York suburb of Rye. The pair got married there earlier this month.

'I'm 55 years old, I'm getting married,'  Jacobs told Women's Wear Daily about the move in February.

'This feels like really a new chapter. I'd like to live a life outside. I just sit home and watch TV in the five-floor town house, you know? It's like, I'd like to be doing that with a beautiful view with dogs running around in the yard.'
