'Have mercy': Victim of Brampton hit-and-run urges driver to come forward
BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The victim of a hit-and-run in Brampton, Ont., last month is pleading with the driver to come forward.
Twenty-one-year-old Navindra Sookramsingh appeared with police at a news conference this morning, sitting upright in a hospital bed and wearing a neck brace.
He says he is unable to walk, has trouble taking deep breaths, and suffers from insomnia and depression.
Police say Sookramsingh was walking home in the early hours of March 17 after drinking at a party when he fell down in a roadway.
They say he was in the process of getting up when he was hit by a small, beige vehicle and thrown more than 20 metres.
Sookramsingh says he chose to speak publicly so he could ask the driver to "have mercy" by coming forward to police.
"I'm not mad at you for hitting me," he said, tears filling his eyes. "I don't want to see you get into any trouble. I just want you to be responsible for what you did to me."
