The ninth Super Bowl performance of Tom Brady's illustrious career was hardly his best, but the 41-year-old quarterback engineered a pair of crucial drives in the fourth quarter that helped New England secure a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams to earn his and the team's sixth Lombardi Trophy.
After the win, Brady was greeted by his children Jack, Benny, and Vivian as well as wife Gisele Bundchen, all of whom embraced and kissed the future Hall of Famer. Brady was also met by his mother, Galynn, who recently battled and beat breast cancer in 2016.
'I can't wait to spend some time with my family and my kids and my wife [Gisele Bundchen],' Brady told CBS' Jim Nantz while holding his daughter Vivian after throwing for 262 yards to win his sixth NFL title. 'I couldn't do it without their support. It's just been a great year. I'm so happy for my teammates. This is a dream come true for all of us.'
In a game that began with Gladys Knight's rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner and featured a halftime performance by Adam LeVine and Maroon 5, the biggest star of the night remained Brady, whose mediocre performance was overshadowed by the historical significance of the win.
Brady's sixth Super Bowl win breaks a tie with former Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Haley, who previously held the record with five Super Bowl victories. With the win over the Rams, the Patriots matched the Steelers for most Super Bowl victories by an NFL franchise, also with six.
For Brady, Sunday's win is unlikely to be his last. The three-time NFL MVP has vowed to return for a 20th NFL season and has stated that he hopes to play until he's 45.
'Look at this,' Brady said when asked by CBS' Jim Nantz how he could motivate himself to return next year. 'How could this not motivate you?'

Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman caught 10 passes for 141 yards; he was the day's only consistent offensive threat.
'He just played the best game he has all year,' Brady said of Edelman. 'So proud of him [and] what he's accomplished coming back from his ACL [injury]. He just fought it out, grinded it out just like everyone else.'
The Super Bowl title was Boston's first major sports championship in 98 days, following the Red Sox' recent World Series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Including the Patriots' Super Bowl win over St. Louis Rams in 2002, Boston has won 12 major sports titles in the last 17 years.
The Rams, who reached the NFL championship game with the aid of a major officiating error in the conference title victory at New Orleans, never really threatened to reach the end zone.
'Last time I checked, defense wins championships,' Rams running back C.J. Anderson said.
At 66, Bill Belichick became the oldest winning Super Bowl coach. The Patriots beat the Rams, then representing St. Louis, to begin their dynastic run in the 2002 game. They also have beaten Carolina and Philadelphia (2004 and '05, the last repeater); the Seahawks in 2015; and the Falcons in 2017 in the only overtime in Super Bowl history.
'We're still here,' Belichick told CBS after the win. 'Everybody counted us out from the beginning of the season.'
The 10-point margin was actually the Patriots' victory in any of their six Super Bowl wins.

They have lost three times, including to Philadelphia a year ago. New England is the first team since the 1972 Dolphins to win a Super Bowl the year after losing one.
Belichick faced a gut-wrenching decision with 1:16 remaining in the fourth when he decided to kick a field goal on forth-and-inches rather than attempting to convert the first down and run out the clock.
Gostkowski had previously missed from 46-yards in the first quarter, but Belichick was rewarded for his faith as the game-clinching kick narrowly snuck in around the left upright.
Brady stumbled out of the gate, throwing an interception on the Patriots' opening drive, but later redeemed himself in the fourth quarter with a five-play, 69 yard drive that ended with a rushing touchdown by rookie running back Sony Michel.

Fresh off his third Super Bowl championship, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski did not want to comment about his NFL future Sunday night.
Instead, the 29-year-old said he wanted to enjoy the moment and be with his teammates. Questions have persisted about whether Gronkowski might call it quits on a grueling career that has included significant injuries and multiple surgeries.
'It's really not about that tonight, it's about celebrating with my team tonight,' Gronkowski said in a postgame interview with NFL Network.
'I'm going to take a few weeks, a week or two, see where I'm at, make a decision from there. But tonight it's about celebrating with the team, celebrating with everyone. We were grinding, what, seven months since training camp, putting the work on. It paid off, and now it's time to celebrate.'
Gronkowski hauled in six catches for 87 yards in the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams. His 29-yard catch in the fourth quarter helped to set up Sony Michel's 2-yard rushing touchdown, which put New England ahead for good.
The nine-year veteran tight end credited Tom Brady with putting the ball in a perfect spot.
'On that play, we saw that there was a matchup right there,' Gronkowski said. 'There was a linebacker on me, and that's when I knew the ball was going to come to me. I knew Tom was going to throw it up there and (I could) just run up and make the play. It was a crucial play, and Sony just did the job finishing it off with a touchdown, which was awesome.'
Gronkowski was willing to clarify one question about his future: Yes, he planned to party Sunday night and beyond.
'Bill (Belichick) said he's partying tonight, and I ain't going to let him out-party me,' Gronkowski said with a grin.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff had a chance to respond on the ensuing drive, but was picked off by Patriots cornerback Stephen Gilmore at New England's four-yard line with 4:17 remaining.

The Patriots' defense gave Goff different looks all night and many of them seemed to confuse the 24-year-old quarterback. They routinely sent an extra deep safety on third-and-short situations and disguised their blitzes up the middle. The latter benefited linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who dropped Goff for a pair of sacks to stunt drives.
New England finished with four sacks for the game.
'We're a relentless team,' linebacker Dont'a Hightower said. 'We didn't give up. A lot was thrown at us. When we play like we did tonight, we can't be beat.'
It added up to an abysmal performance by Los Angeles on third-down situations. The Rams were 0 for 6 on third down in the first half and 3 of 13 for game. New England also held Los Angeles to just 260 total yards.
The Patriots defense deserves much of the credit for the close score after holding the Rams to just 78 first-half yards.
The first half was certainly a departure from the regular season, when the Rams and Patriots ranked second and fifth, respectively, in offensive yards. On Sunday the two teams combined for nine punts on the first ten drives of the game.
In fact, the Rams had never gone scoreless in a first half under coach Sean McVay until Sunday against the Patriots. Los Angeles actually entered halftime with only 78 yards, compared to 195 for New England.
Edelman had 93 receiving yards in the first half, outgaining the Rams' offense by himself.
The six combined points were the fewest scored by two teams through the first three quarters of Super Bowl history.

The Rams appeared to be driving for a touchdown in the third quarter, when Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower's sack of Goff left Greg Zuerlein with a 53-yard field goal attempt, which he converted to tie the game.
Brady's pick was nearly caught by Patriots receiver Chris Hogan at the Rams' 27-yard line, but the ball deflected into the waiting hands of Los Angeles linebacker Cory Littleton.
The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in into halftime thanks to a 41-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski in the second quarter. He previously missed a 46-yard attempt in the first quarter, which was the first missed kick by any NFL kicker this season in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the home of the Atlanta Falcons.

The Patriots registered five first downs in the first quarter compared to just one for the Rams, but Brady and New England's offense still failed to score a point despite driving into Los Angeles territory on their first three possessions.
Brady also has a fumble in the first quarter, which was recovered by the Patriots.
Besides Patriots fans, New Orleans Saints supporters also celebrated the outcome of Super Bowl LIII.
The Saints seemed destined to beat the Rams in the NFC title game before a blown call ultimately led to Los Angeles' come-from-behind win.
With the teams tied 20-20 late in regulation, officials failed to call pass interference or helmet-to-helmet penalties on Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman for knocking Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis down as he awaited a pass. A flag would have allowed New Orleans a chance to run down the clock and kick a go-ahead field goals with about 25 seconds left in regulation.
Instead the Rams tied the game in regulation and ultimately won in overtime.
In response, fans filed lawsuits against the NFL in hopes of compelling a rematch, another purchased electronic billboard ads declaring the 'Saints got robbed,' Grammy winner and New Orleans native Harry Connick Jr. declared he will boycott this year's Super Bowl, and at least two politicians have entered the fray.
The lawsuits were ultimately thrown out and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that overturning the Rams' win was never a consideration.
New Orleans did get the last laugh in Monday's edition of the Times-Picayune, which featured a nearly-blank front page with the words: 'Super Bowl? What Super Bowl?'

Knight called her rendition of the 'The Star-Spangled Banner' an 'exciting moment' and 'one to remember' in the tunnel of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the New England Patriots played the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in Atlanta. The 74-year-old singer was all smiles as she thanked everyone who supported her through the controversy involving performers who were criticized for performing at the NFL's marquee game.
Before Knight performed, the R&B sister duo Chloe x Halle sang 'America the Beautiful.' The group said their experience was 'wonderful' and were 'thankful to God' for the opportunity.
Both Knight and Chloe x Halle put on strong performances. They have been surrounded by the controversy after some have boycotted the NFL over treatment of Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback who protested racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem.
While some performers declined participation in the Super Bowl, Knight said she hoped her anthem would unite people.
Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi will headline the halftime show at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
