A police officer took time out of his busy working day to stop and have a snowball fight with a group of children in Alabama.

Heartwarming video footage shows a group of children standing at the side of a neighborhood street as they see an oncoming police vehicle.

But instead of telling the children to stop, the officer joins in on the fun by pulling over and throwing snowballs at the children. 

The children in a neighborhood in Alabama can't help but throw snowballs at an approaching police vehicle 

Zdenek Hel, who filmed the encounter, said: 'A police car went by the officers made snowballs and attacked the kids! The kids didn't let these police dudes get away easily!

'The thing was completely unplanned, the police officers just decided to use the rare occasion of having snow in Alabama and played with the kids.'

The footage was filmed in December 2017  but has gone viral in recent days. 

And there were plenty of people throughout the country who enjoyed the snowy conditions this week's polar vortex brought. 

People affected by the Polar Vortex in the US have taken to social media to show how plunging temperatures have affected their daily lives and homes.

Millions of Americans in the Midwest battled Arctic-like temperatures owing to a phenomenon called the Polar Vortex, which led to the suspension of schools, offices and flight services as residents huddle indoors. 

The coldwave, which made temperatures plummet to as low as minus 56 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 49 Celsius) on Thursday, was also blamed for at least.

While some took up the boiling water challenge— throwing hot water to see it freeze instantly mid-air — others took to social media to show how plunging temperatures have thrown life out of gear.
