Instagram says IGTV is coming to your newsfeed - and users aren't thrilled
'Literally nobody asked for this': Instagram announces IGTV is coming to your newsfeed - and users aren't thrilled
- Instagram is putting IGTV clips in the feed, sandwiched between regular posts
- Clips are a preview for the full video, which users can watch by clicking through
- Users weren't thrilled by the update, however, with many protesting on Twitter
- Instagram launched IGTV last June and, since then, it has struggled to take off
Instagram is serious about getting its users to watch IGTV videos.
IGTV, or Instagram TV, is a dedicated section of the app where users can post long-form videos, such as tutorials, skits, news clips and other updates from people they follow.
The feature was rolled out last June and, since then, has struggled to take off among users.
Now, Instagram has announced it's putting clips from IGTV right into users' feeds, so that they can view them as they scroll.

In a tweet on Thursday, Instagram said it would start showing previews of IGTV videos in the main feed, sandwiched between posts from people they follow.
'When there's a new video from someone you follow, you can tap from your feed to watch the full video in IGTV,' the firm said.
A short promotional video for update shows that users can click on the clip to view the full IGTV video.
When IGTV was launched last year, it was pegged as Instagram's answer to YouTube.
There, users can upload clips that are up to 60 minutes long, which is a significant increase from the previous limit of 60 seconds.
It was meant to be a way for users to consume more content from their favorite accounts in a vertical video format, not unlike Snapchat's vertical videos.

Users could access IGTV videos by clicking on the colorful TV icon in the righthand corner of the app.
The company also created a standalone IGTV app that housed the content.
Instagram signaled that users have been less than thrilled by IGTV when it began showing alerts for new IGTV videos at the top of the feed, as well as pushing IGTV videos in the Explore tab.
It also began lettings users share IGTV previews to their Instagram Stories.
By putting IGTV previews straight into the feed, it seems like a last-ditch effort by the company to get users to engage with IGTV.
Users weren't happy about the update, either.
Many complained on Twitter that the update was essentially forcing them to watch IGTV content against their will.
'No one that joined Instagram to share photos wants this BS, along with the other BS you've forced unto us, in their feed,' one Twitter user wrote.
'It has become all too obvious that you're doing everything possible to alienate the photo community that built Instagram.'
Another user said: 'No thanks. Keep stuff I don't actively want to see out of my feed. This forced interaction with things is getting out of control.'
While users appear to be against the idea, Instagram maintains that it'll make it 'easier' for them to watch IGTV content.
'With IGTV previews in feed, we're making it even easier to discover and watch the latest video content from your favorite follows,' an Instagram spokesperson told Variety.
