A father has captured an incredible picture of three pythons lined up just centimetres away from his son. 

The image, posted on Australian Reptile Enthusiasts on January 27, had initially fooled shocked users who were told it was world's longest eight-metre python. 

But the illusion of a one lengthy Olive python, captured in the Northern Territory, is actually two snakes measuring 3.1 metres each and one measuring 3.6 metres.

The post has garnered nearly 2,500 shares and 600 reactions online.

Many skeptical users debated over whether there were two or three snakes. 

'Very clever but I think theres [sic] two snakes,' one user wrote.

'It's two snakes there is definitely two tails,' another wrote. 

The Olive python can grow up to four metres in length and are found in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland. 

Olive pythons are a non-venomous species, which are often confused for the venomous king brown because of their greenish-brownish skin and are killed out of fear.
