Dog removed in 'serious and disturbing' animal cruelty case is recovering
PICTOU, N.S. -- Police are hoping for a full recovery for a dog that was removed from a home in Pictou County, N.S., last week in an alleged animal cruelty case.
In an email, RCMP spokesman Cpl. Andrew Joyce says the dog is "responsive and recovering," two days after she was found injured in the home and taken to a veterinary clinic.
Joyce had previously described the case, in which SPCA officers also removed a dead dog and six dead puppies from the residence, as "serious and disturbing."
On Thursday, police responded to the property on Maple Street in Sylvester after receiving a report about cruelty to animals.
A 55-year-old man was arrested and is set to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on April 15 to face charges of causing damage or injury to animals or birds, and causing animals or birds unnecessary suffering.
The man has not been named, and Joyce says any vigilante justice will not be tolerated.
