Apple has released iOS 12.1.3 for the iPhone, iPad and HomePod.

The update doesn't include any new features, but it does fix several major bugs affecting those devices, plus some related software like Messages and CarPlay. 

One of the most worrying bugs resolved within this update affects the FaceTime app and Bluetooth connections.

Apple has released iOS 12.1.3 for the iPhone, iPad and HomePod. The update doesn't include any new features, but it does fix several major bugs affecting those devices

HOW TO UPDATE 

Apple has now issued iOS 12.1.3, promising a number of bug fixes impacting Messages, CarPlay and FaceTime, among other things.

To get the update, go into Settings > General. 

Tap Software Update. 

Then press Download and Install for iOS 12.1.3.

Apple's Support website breaks down all the security updates included in iOS 12.1.3.

Among those are one that relates to Apple's video-calling app, FaceTime. 

iOS 12.1.3 fixes a bug with FaceTime that would have allowed a hacker to remotely control the app.

'A remote attacker may be able to initiate a FaceTime call using arbitrary code execution,' Apple's website states. 

The site goes on to state that this has been fixed by addressing a 'buffer overflow issue.' 

The FaceTime bug impacted the iPhone 5S and later, iPad Air and later, as well as the 6th generation iPod Touch.

The U.S. National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center advised Apple users to update their devices to avoid 'vulnerabilities in multiple products.'

There are several other bug fixes include in iOS 12.1.3, such as a frustrating error in the Messages app. 

'Fixes an issue in Messages that could impact scrolling through photos in the Details view,' the iOS 12.1.3 notes state.

When users tap on a contact's name in the Messages app, then select 'info,' they can view any photos exchanged with the person under the 'Details' page. 

But an irritating glitch in iOS 12.1.2 meant that some photos in this section wouldn't load and were instead represented by a blank file icon.  

There are several other bug fixes include in iOS 12.1.3, such as a frustrating Messages glitch. It meant that some photos under a contact's name wouldn't load and were replaced by a file icon

iOS 12.1.3 also addresses a number of audio bugs, like 'an issue that could cause audio distortion when using external audio input devices on the iPad Pro.'

And for CarPlay users, it will address a bug that caused the software to randomly disconnect when being used from an iPhone XR, XS or XS Max, according to Apple. 

Finally, there's some fixes for the HomePod. In iOS 12.1.3, users should no longer experience issues with it abruptly restarting or cause Siri to stop listening while in use.         

Most of the major new features are expected to come when Apple announces iOS 13 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
