An anti-violence campaign group has denied allegations it reported The Battered Wife fish and chip shop to authorities or encouraged anyone to harass the beleaguered business in Innisfail in far north Queensland.

In a statement posted to social media today, the Red Heart Campaign said it had received "thousands of threats and abusive messages" since the shop's owner made accusations yesterday of an "abusive witch hunt".

Fish and chip owner Carolyn Kerr said a different not-for-profit organisation from Perth had made threats to "throw bricks through my windows," while anonymous complaints had also been made to ASIC about the takeaway shop's name.

Ms Kerr said she received a call from Fair Work Australia last week, notifying her there would be an audit.

She said she would close the take-away shop's doors on Sunday — unless there is a "divine intervention".

"I can't see how I can continue when it's relentless what I'm going through," Ms Kerr said.

In a post by Red Heart Campaign it denied the organisation was to blame for the takeaway shop's closure, saying it was "appalled and shocked" by the allegations.

"The Red Heart Campaign has not reported the business to any authorities and we have not encouraged anyone connected to us to harass or threaten the business or owner," the post stated.

"When the owner said last year that people connected The Red Heart Campaign were harassing the business, one of our senior administrators asked for screenshots of the abuse with the intention of taking it to police.

"She refused to give us the material and so we were unable to take action."

The Red Heart Campaign stated it was "disgusted and distressed at the thought of threats" coming from anybody linked to the campaign.

"Given the serious nature of these allegations, I can only ask the owner to please take this material to police and let them do their job," the campaign posted — also claiming somebody had set up a fake version of their site yesterday.

The campaign agreed it had previously uploaded a post questioning why the shop's owner would choose a name that "mocks domestic violence survivors".

Ms Kerr said amid the controversy, there had also been an outpouring of support towards her.

"One of my teammates said two ladies flew up from Sydney just to share their support and try your fish and chips. I thought, that's amazing for someone to fly from Sydney to Cairns," Ms Kerr said.

Asked about the store's impending closure, Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington said it was "always distressing" when business owners were forced to shut up shop.

"I feel for the owner — times are tough in many of these small country towns," Ms Frecklington said.

She said she did not condemn the shop's name in Queensland Parliament, but was asked about it during a press conference.

"I am a very staunch advocate against domestic violence," Ms Frecklington said.
