A homeless Good Samaritan in Kansas City is reaping rewards after helping out a man in need who turned out to be an NFL player for the Chiefs, unbeknownst to him.

When David Cochran saw people stuck in the snow on Saturday, he used his 1995 Suburban, which he lives in with his fiancee, to tow people out of trouble and get them back on their way.

One of those people just happened to be offensive lineman Jeff Allen, who was on his way to play (and beat) the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.

'(I) just pulled over,' Cochran told KSHB. 'I went to help him, then he told me he was a Chiefs player. I didn’t know he was a Chiefs player. I looked at him as a normal person and hoped he would do the same for me like I did for him.'

Afterward, Allen tweeted that he wanted to get in touch with 'Dave,' whose full name he didn't know at the time, to thank him with a gift of AFC Championship game tickets for Sunday, and the internet made it happen.

Since then, Cochran has received replacement windows for his SUV, and a GoFundMe page has been set up in his name, which has received over $15,000 in donations to date.

But at least one individual has said Cochran is not the hero he's being made out to be.

'He's being praised on TV as a good Samaritan and that couldn't be further from the truth,' Ashley Wheeler told Fox.

'He was in the right place at the right time to help someone out, but all the bad he's done in the past shouldn't be covered up with the one good deed that he has been accounted for this week,' Wheeler said, alleging that Cochran stole his vehicle out of his driveway one year ago, and it hasn't been seen since.

Cochran admits drugs have been a problem for him, but said he's been sober for three months.

'I got messed up with methamphetamines at age 12. Ever since then, my life has gone down, down, down,' Cochran said.

Records show he's been jailed for theft, including four stays in prison, and has been arrested at least 22 times in the city of Independence alone.

'I just went to jail about a week ago because of my record, my background,' Cochran said.

Even so, Cochran still helped Allen get to work on Saturday. Afterward, the Chiefs player tweeted the following on Saturday: 'My car got stuck in the snow before the game & a nice guy named Dave help pull me out without knowing I was a player. I want to give him tickets to the AFC championship game for helping but don’t have a way to contact him. He drove a 97 or 98 Black Suburban. Pls RT #ChiefsKingdom.'

Cochran said when he heard Allen was trying to get in touch with him, he set up a Twitter account to reach out to him and tweeted back to Allen: 'Hell yeah hope we can meet on better terms next time this is the crazy white boy in the big black suburban'

And when the two connected, Allen gave Cochran three tickets, which he'll be using to take himself to his very first football game ever, along with his sister and fiancee.

'It’s like a dream come true,' Cochran said. After Cochran and Allen got in touch, the footballer joked over social media: 'Update: Despite the recent influx in people changing their name to Dave in the KC area lol, I was actually able to track down the Dave that helped me thanks to the power of social media and #ChiefsKindgom. Thanks for your kindness.'

An update to the GoFundMe page posted on Monday said a member of Cochran's family who he trusts has been placed in charge of the campaign.

'A beneficiary for the funds has been set up within the family, and it is someone Dave is comfortable with taking on this role,' the update read.

'This individual is now in charge of this campaign and the campaign will remain active as long as they deem it so. Thank you all for your support in helping change lives!'

The page has received over $15,000 in donations since it was created on Sunday.

Cochran will be in the stands watching as the Chiefs take on the New England Patriots on Sunday in hopes of advancing to the Super Bowl.
