  •  Spacey, who came out as gay in October, has been accused of sexual abuse by at least 16 people

Robin Wright has opened up about her relationship with former House of Cards costar Kevin Spacey for the first time, months after he was accused of sexually abusing at least 16 people since the 80s.

The 52-year-old actress sat down with Today's Savannah Guthrie for an interview airing on Monday in which she reveals that she did not interact with Spacey when the cameras weren't rolling.

Spacey, 58, was fired from the hit Netflix series after allegations of his misconduct surfaced in October, leaving Wright - who played his wife - to take over as the show's main character in the sixth and final season.

'Was there any kind of red flag, or anything that would have made you think this was possible?' Guthrie asked during the interview filmed last week.

'Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and in between setups where we would giggle,' Wright said.

'I didn't really– I didn't know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.'

This is the first time that Wright has spoken publicly about the allegations against her former costar.

Guthrie teased the interview by posting a photo of the pair on set to Instagram on Friday.

House of Cards will be taken in a new direction following Spacey's departure, as evidenced by the most recent advertisements that depict Wright alone.

A teaser for the final season - set to be released toward the end of this year - shows shows Wright sitting on a marble a la the Lincoln Monument.

The story line will trace her character Claire Underwood's ascendancy to the presidency after wrestling power away from her own husband, the crooked politician Frank Underwood.

Spacey came out as gay in October 2017 just after actor Anthony Rapp claimed Spacey had made inappropriate sexual advances toward him when he was just 14.

Spacey responded with a statement on Twitter.

'I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I'm beyond horrified to hear his story,' he wrote.

'I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.'

Spacey entered a treatment facility in November and has not been seen in public in the more than seven months since.

Fifteen others have come forward making similar allegations against Spacey, including Richard Dreyfuss's son Harry and eight people who worked with him on the set of House of Cards.

Three of those accusations were brought to light earlier this month.

In April, one sexual assault case against the star involving a male adult that allegedly took place in West Hollywood in 1992 was turned over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for investigation.

Spacey is being investigated by London's Metropolitan Police for six separate male-on-male attacks that allegedly occurred Westminster in 1996, in Lambeth in 2008 and in Gloucester in 2013.

Spacey will appear on camera for the first time since the allegations in Billionaire Boys Club, coming out in August.
