- Photograph echos moment Princess Diana took part in Wills's sports day in 1989
Princess Diana won over crowds when she took part in her son's sports day back in 1989.
And yesterday her daughter-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge proved she has the same carefree spirit as she got stuck into children's games at a charity polo match.
One photograph bears a striking resemblance to the moment the late Princess Diana won a running race against other parents at Prince William's sports day in June 1989.
Wearing a white jumper and flowing skirt, the late royal delighted crowds as she beat fellow mothers.
And the duchess echoed her mother-in-law's fun spirit by racing the little ones as the match commenced.
Wearing a £39.99 Zara dress and a pair of high street heels, Kate threw herself into the fun by chasing Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The trio made a surprise appearance at Wiliam's match in Tetbury and were joined by the children of Peter Phillips seven-year-old Savannah and her sister Isla, six.

Great Kate: The down-to-earth royal proved that - despite wearing heels - she was more than happy to get involved with the fun and games
Look summer chic in a striped Zara dress like the Duchess
Only yesterday the Duchess of Cambridge was dressed up to the nines in a stunning Alexander McQueen number as she attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony, but today's look is a lot more relaxed.
Stepping out to a charity polo match, Kate wore a blue striped midi by Zara. Clearly she's been stocking up on summer staples from there because we spotted her in a similar dress by the high-street brand just the other day!
The blue striped material exudes summery vibes, and we love the tie-waist, bardot neckline and button detail. Wear it with espadrilles a la Kate, or flat sandals on holiday. At £39.99, it's a total bargain and perfect for seeing you through the summer season in style.

William, 35, was competing in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, just a day after taking part in the show-stopping Trooping the Colour parade in London.
And his wife delighted fans with a surprise appearance on Sunday afternoon as she, George and Charlotte descended on Tetbury for a day of family fun.
Kate looked every inch the doting mother as she kept a watchful eye on George, four, and Charlotte, three.
And she threw herself into the merriment too by chasing the youngsters around and helping them down the helterskelter.

Happy families: Kate appeared to tickle Princess Charlotte while Prince George, four, enjoyed playing with a toy
Watchful eye: Ever the caring parent, Kate stood at the top of the Helter Skelter and watched as young Prince George, four, made his way down the gigantic slide
At one point, mischievous Charlotte made Kate and Autumn Phillips collapse into fits of giggles as she performed an impressive headstand, while a shy George watched on.
George was no doubt delighted to be reunited with his cousin Savannah, who on Saturday was pictured cheekily covering his mouth with her hand as they watched the Red Arrows flypast from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

She also joined the royal family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace for Trooping The Colour on Saturday.
Royal fans are expected to get their next glimpse of the youngest member of the Cambridge family when he is christened over the coming months.
