A Facebook group used by Australian men to share intimate details, images and videos in so-called "lay reports" has closed down, following an ABC story detailing its content.

The group's associated YouTube and Instagram accounts have been scrubbed clean, and its Sydney-based administrator has put his social media into lockdown.

Yesterday, the ABC published details of what goes on in the closed Facebook groups, where men share "lay reports" after sex.

The most extreme posts on the now-defunct group include nude images of women and sex videos, some of which appear to have been filmed without their knowledge.

Some of the posts made no attempt to hide women's identities, while others included enough detail to potentially identify them.

As of Sunday morning the Australia-based group was not accessible on Facebook.

"It's absolutely great news," eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said.

"Unfortunately with the internet we're playing a bit of a whack-a-mole game, so as soon as we take down an offending site, or a post, it can pop up elsewhere.

"Let's keep making it harder for the perpetrators to violate people's privacy rights in this kind of way."

There are several other groups used by Australians to post "lay reports", which are still operating.

Those groups are run by administrators outside of Australia.
