Service agents to polling places,
House Republicans agreed

A rider in the Homeland Security reauthorization bill the Republican House has passed would give the occupier of the Oval Office new authority to interfere in federal elections. It would allow Trump to send armed Secret Service agents to polling places nationwide, supposedly in order to ensure the safety of their "protectees" while they are voting. Because we've had so many incidents of candidates being attacked while they're trying to vote?
The rider has prompted outrage from more than a dozen top elections officials around the country, including Secretary of State William F. Galvin of Massachusetts, a Democrat, who says he is worried that it could be used to intimidate voters and said there is "no basis" for providing Trump with this new authority.
"This is worthy of a Third World country," said Galvin in an interview. "I’m not going to tolerate people showing up to our polling places. I would not want to have federal agents showing up in largely Hispanic areas.""The potential for mischief here is enormous," Galvin added. […]"There is no discernible need for federal secret service agents to intrude, at the direction of the president, who may also be a candidate in that election, into thousands of citadels where democracy is enshrined," according to a letter opposing the provision that was signed by 19 bipartisan secretaries of state and elections commissioners. The letter—sent to the Senate's majority leader, Mitch McConnell, and its minority leader, Charles Schumer, on Friday afternoon—requests that the Senate keep the Secret Service provision from the final legislation. The elections officials described the proposal as "unprecedented and shocking."
Trump's continued obsession about "voter fraud" that kept him from winning the popular vote in 2016 makes giving him this authority flat-out dangerous. As it stands, the Secret Service can accompany a person they are protecting—the president or a federal official—to the polls. But according to Catherine Milhoan, a spokeswoman for the Secret Service, the agency is seeking "clarifying language" to ensure agents can access polling places citing an incident in the 2016 election "when officers encountered 'some reluctance' from staff at a polling location."
There does not need to be legislation that could allow the president to dispatch agents to polling places at will, particularly when there has been just one incident of confusion. All it would take is a letter from some federal authority to all state elections chiefs to provide that clarification.
NOTE: If I'm recalling correctly, and at my age this isn't ironclad, I recently posted a piece about creeping Fascism in America. Wait, let me look. Yes, here it is: SCAPEGOATING AS PUBLIC POLICY. While this piece was about Trump using scapegoats as the foundation of his public policy and pleasing his ignorant base, I did delve into the propaganda and scapegoating campaign that led to the slaughter of 6 million human beings in Nazi Germany. Not to necessarily make a big deal over it, but the idea of sending Homeland Security slugs or armed Secret Service Agents to patrol voting places and catch voter fraud as it occurs, is just another indication in a long line of Fascist actions that Trump and his Administration have attempted to implement all across America.
The very idea that armed Federal Agents from any Federal Agency would be sent to polling places to protect candidates or voters from strong-armed interference is pretty preposterous. Of course as we all know, there have been SO many examples of armed men holding guns to voters heads in the voting booth as they cast their votes for whomever. Apparently this tactic didn't work for Mitt Romney in 2012. Nor, apparently, did it work for the stellar team of John McCain and Moose Skinner, Sarah Palin. But, hey, there is simply no way that in over 1 billion votes that were assessed by a reputable university study that found 10 examples of voter fraud at the voting booth, that we cannot be vigilant towards stamping out this egregious example of rampant voter fraud.
And if you think that Trump and his Administration aren't serious about making sure that our election processes are secure and inviolate, don't forget that Trump said that the reason that Hillary won the popular vote is because millions of illegal aliens voted for "Lock Her Up" Hillary Clinton. And we all know that whatever Trump says or tweets is God's Gospel truth never to be countered by facts.
And There You Have It Folks! Republicans will go to any lengths to ensure that they continue to win. It's sort of like Hitler blaming Germany's 1% of that nation's population - the Jews - for rampant unemployment, labor unrest and rising Communism.
You Just Gotta Love Trump, Right? Or You Will Wind Up Being Detained Maybe By ICE Agents When You Leave Church or When You Cast Your Vote in November By The Secret Service.
And as the House Intelligence Committee (an oxymoron if there ever was one!) winds down their Russia meddling investigation (and thank God for small favors!) with a finding of no Trump collusion, is it any wonder why Republicans in Congress supported this bill? Nah!
