An American man visiting Japan lead police to the arms and torso of the Japanese woman whose head was found in a suitcase where he was staying.

Yevgeniy Vasilievich Bayraktar allegedly told police on February 25, 'I abandoned the dead body of a woman who was with me,' local newspaper the Asahi Shimbun reported. 

Bayraktar is currently being held on suspicion of murdering the 27-year-old woman, who has not been identified, but has not yet been charged with a crime.  

The 26-year-old from Long Island, New York, was detained Thursday after police found the woman's head in his suitcase. He was about a month into his Japanese vacation at the time.

The arms were found laying side-by-side under a light covering of soil about 1,800 feet from where the torso was buried in the mountains of Shimamoto, a town in the Osaka Prefecture, according to the newspaper. 

The two legs were found about 15 feet apart from each other in a wood area of Kyoto's Yamashina Ward. The arms and legs looked like they were severed with a sharp knife, Tokyo Reporter said. 

Police said all of the body parts came from a woman from Sanda City who has been missing since February 16.

Bayraktar was seen on the on security footage later that day leaving the apartment several times with a suitcase. The woman did not ever appear on the camera again leaving the apartment

She and Bayraktar were last spotted together on security footage that night at the JR Morinomiya Station in Osaka around midnight, just hours before she went missing.

The pair reportedly met on a 'social networking site' before making plans to arrange a trip, the woman informed one of her friends prior.

Bayraktar was seen on the on security footage later that day leaving the apartment several times with a suitcase. The woman did not ever appear on the camera again leaving the apartment. 

The woman was last seen before that by co-workers when she left work on February 15, according to Ashai.  

An examination of the body parts is now being conducted to identify the victim, Japanese authorities said.   

Bayraktar has visited Japan several times, according to the newspaper.

On Monday reporters from a flurry of news stations from around the world were on the block of Mastic Beach in Long Island where Bayraktar lived.  He moved there with his mother and her husband about a decade ago, neighbor Luanne Pisano told the New York Daily News. 

'He seemed OK, I didn't really talk to him,' Pisano said, explaining that she was stunned by the allegations. 

'It scares me. I have a daughter... These days you can't tell who's who.' 

Nippon TV reported that the man's parents denied allegations, and said Bayraktar had always dreamed about marrying a Japanese woman.

Another neighbor John Motovidlak said Bayraktar's family was friendly, and 'beautiful people.' 

'They wave, they smile and say "good evening,'" he told NBC 4.
