THE INFURIATING BLINDNESS OF THE WASHINGTON POST

MCCABE'S HANDLING OF PROBE EXAMINED

WASHINGTON POST FRONT PAGE HEADLINE ON 31 JANUARY 2016

As I read through this article the deeper I got into it the more my blood boiled.  In the first place, the Inspector General's "examination" of the handling of the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's e-mails - those that were discovered on Anthony Weiner's laptop - suggests that there is something other than a politically induced smear campaign against the FBI by Republicans to protect Donald Trump.   This is the Birther crap all over again when the Post and the Times and the media simply could not refrain from lending legitimacy to Trump's totally fictitious claims and had to treat them seriously in some sort of "fair and balanced" "there are two sides to every story" "we don't want to be biased in our reporting" when the entire thing was simply bullshit.  And now the Post is doing the exact same thing with the "corruption of the FBI" which is also total bullshit. What the fuck is wrong with the folks at the Post?  Do they not realize that publishing this crap only buttresses the wild claims by Nunes, Ryan and other Republicans who seem to be willing to auction off America in toto in order to save Trump from harm?   It's not that I object to publishing this crap but somewhere in the article there ought to be a disclaimer:  "None of the claims by Republicans of bias, malfeasance, prejudice, criminal acts at the FBI or by FBI agents or by Director McCabe have shown to have the slightest factual basis."  There is no such disclaimer.

And furthermore, what really made me angry is the telling of what went on back in 2016 just weeks before the Presidential Election, all the struggles about what to do about the latest Clinton e-mails,  exposing the three week delay before the probe started (were FBI officials delaying the probe until after the election?), when did then-Director James Comey come to know about the Weiner laptop,  when did McCable learn about the Anthony dick pic Weiner e-mails etc. etc. etc.  I have no problem with the Post investigating what happened except for the fact that they do not put the bogus investigation in the context of the Deep State Secret Cabal of Taco Bell Meeting Rogue FBI Agents out to derail Trump which is bad enough, but here's the real kicker:

No where in this article is there a mention of the FBI's Russian Election meddling probe and Trump's possible collusion which had already started when the Weiner laptop scandal became known.

Well, and why would they, you might ask?  Well, apparently the authors of this piece didn't have sufficient imagination to picture what might have been on the minds of certain FBI officials at the time.  "So on the one hand" says FBI Under Deputy For Political Scandals, "we have the massive and potentially explosive matter of Russian meddling in the upcoming Presidential Election and the possibility that the Trump campaign assisted in this attack by a foreign government.  On the other hand, we have another Hillary Clinton e-mail scandal that the public is very much aware of and are demanding that we do something about.  So what do we do?  I want to make it clear that what we will do is to remain silent about both investigations as is our normal course of events and the Bureau's longstanding internal policy."

But this isn't what happened.  James Comey did comment on the Hillary e-mail scandal, twice.  The first to say that, yes, indeed there was an active investigation three weeks before the election breaking long standing FBI protocol about not commenting on ongoing investigations.  The second time to say that "there was no indication of wrong doing" just sloppiness three days before the election again breaking both longstanding tradition and FBI policy.

But here's the massive and as yet unexplained problem that is far more important than McCabe's handling of anything:  Why did the FBI choose to publicly announce their investigation against one Presidential Candidate, namely Hillary Clinton, but not another Presidential Candidate, namely Donald Trump?  This as far as I'm concerned is what needs to be investigated if there is any need for an investigation not McCabe's role in the Hillary Clinton/Anthony Weiner laptop e-mails.  One could posit that since the bulk of FBI employees tend toward conservatism and Republicanism, that this might have been the reason for the agency's silence on this issue?  Do you think that whatever was on Weiner's laptop was so much more important than a foreign power attempting to influence or, indeed, influencing the outcome of a Presidential election so as to announce one but not the other?

Think of it this way.  I doubt there is any question that Comey's announcements turned potential Hillary voters off.  If America knew that Trump and his campaign were possibly cooperating with Russian agents to rig the Presidential election do you think this might have turned some potential Trump voters off?

This is what was going on at the FBI at the time and the Post makes no mention of it.  I suspect that Comey's actions on one investigation and his inaction on the other probably caused a great deal of turmoil within the agency.  Had he also announced the Russian investigation it would have caused a huge turmoil in the eyes of the American public as well.  But this is what did not happen.

So the Post manages to ignore what are in my mind the two most important facts in the DOJ's Inspector General's investigation into the handling of the Hillary E-Mail Scandal #2:  The fundamental genesis of the current so-called IG's investigation originates from a manufactured campaign to impugn the integrity of the FBI by Republicans with the sole objective of protecting Donald Trump; and 2) the FBI's total silence about the contemporaneous investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian meddling while breaking policy to publicly discuss the Clinton e-mails.

This is what should be investigated if there should be any investigation at all.  The Post does all of us a disservice by these omissions.

Have a Good Day Even Though It's Depressing As Hell.

NOTE: Devin Nunes, Trump and Republicans are proposing to release classified information to the public.  Normally this would be a criminal act - you know, like Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning committed - but here in Trumpland apparently treasonous acts are no longer considered important as long as they are directed toward protecting Trump.

Pretty fucking amazing isn't it?
