DEMOCRATS MUST NOT STRIKE A "DEAL" WITH TRUMP ON IMMIGRATION
One of the problems we are all facing is the inability to counter Trump's lunacy. Destroy the EPA? No problem. Reward the already wealthy with huge tax breaks? Hey, done deal! Strip millions of Americans from their health insurance? Already done! Insult and ridicule our long standing overseas allies? It's a wrap! Lying daily to the American people? Well......
What we have been subjected to for nearly a year now in what is called the Trump Administration, is White Rule. In fact, White Rule By Trump Supporters. And let's call that by its rightful name: White Supremacy Rule. We've been subjected to the "ideas and views" masquerading as policy of the Neo-Nazi's who marched in Charlottesville and demanded that America become a Whites Only Nation once again. What does "Unite The Right" mean, if not this?
Trump's "shithole" statements have served to reinforce what the media has only hinted at and we, the rest of America, have dreaded. But now we know. From Charlottesville to DACA, Donald J. Trump only wants folks like him - White, Rich, Christian - in America. No one else. He is Making America White Again not "great again." As we watch our beloved country being taken over by ignorance and bullying, as our environment is being despoiled once again, as the rule of law is being undermined, as our democratic traditions are being overturned, we sit in front of our computers and television sets and cry. We weep over our powerlessness in the face of such cruel devastation and wanton destruction. It's as if we are watching a Katrina style natural disaster pummeling the entire country into smithereens and we can do nothing about it. Trump has made it crystal clear that he is implementing "policies" based on the views and beliefs of his followers even though these "views and beliefs" have no basis in reality and are just plain wrong.
In case Congressional Democrats haven't noticed yet, there is no "working" with Trump. There are no "deals" to be made with Trump. You can have a deal one day and tomorrow he'll just shit on you and rip the deal to shreds. Remember, Trump's "immigration" policies are meant to placate no more than one-third of the country since it is only this one-third who sees immigrants in the hateful way that Trump does. The rest of us, the 70% of America who thinks Trump is the shithole, understand that immigrants continually rejuvenate American culture. Understand how vital immigrants have been to the development of American industry, manufacturing, agriculture and our economic foundation in general. Understand that our diversity is our strength, what makes us different and unique from other countries around the world. Yet Republicans simply cannot seem to generate sufficient courage to take on Trump for his racist, bigoted and xenophobic views, rants and policies. They remain silent - save for one or two- and their silence is not only complicit, their silence enables Trump to continue to rape and pillage America.
Here's some interesting info about immigrants:
There was no burning need for Trump to cancel DACA. Oh, wait. I'm wrong. You see his supporters don't think it's "fair" that this group of 800,000 get to stay in America and pollute American culture. Thus the burning need. But not only is repealing DACA cruel it flies in the face of rationality. DACA folks aren't murderers, rapists and drug lords who have streamed over our border with Mexico. What they are are the children of illegal immigrants who had absolutely no say in their fate and who simply and dutifully accompanied their parents here and had no power to do otherwise. Most are older now. Most have college degrees. Most have mortgages. Most have been paying taxes for years. They are not murderers and rapists or criminals. These are upstanding, hard working family folks who actually represent the very best of what we call our American Ideals. They should be granted citizenship not sent back to their "own" countries which are mostly a vague memory for them. The government of the United States of America made a promise to the DACA children: You follow the rules we've created and you can stay here. Trump has betrayed not only the DACA's but the solemn word of America.
There is no making "deals" with Trump. The mechanisms available to us to counter Trump's cruelty and insanity are precious few. In fact, we citizens of America have precisely one: the upcoming elections in November. But members of Congress - at least you Democratic members - have more tools than we do. How about using them? So how about you Democrats just shove the whole DACA business back in Trump's face? How about shutting down the government rather than making a bad "deal" with Trump? Nobody but Trump's angry White supporters want a damned wall. Nobody but Trump's racist supporters want to send the DACA folks out of America. How about taking a forceful stand against the craziness that is Trump? You won't be blamed for this. Sure, shutting the government down over DACA is a scary action to take but as we sit here watching Trump and his minions destroy America what can we do? We can do nothing until November 6, 2018. But you can do something now. Do it!
