Continuing our series on the best self catering holiday rentals, we take a look at a fabulous barn in beautiful Northumberland.

Where: Beehive Barn, one of a cluster of stone cottages converted from old barns and stables, stands isolated beside a country lane near the Northumberland heritage coast. 

The property: Beautiful, spacious home with distant sea views. The rear garden backs on to moorland.

There is also a shared grass tennis court. Downstairs you can curl up beside the wood-burning stove to watch TV or DVDs, while the large open-plan kitchen also has a seating area.

What to see: The coastline is dotted with medieval castles. Park at Craster and walk along the seashore to the ruins of Dunstanburgh. 

Nearby Howick Hall & Gardens is the home of Earl Grey tea. Take a boat to the Farne Islands to see the seabird colonies. 

At Holy Island, a couple of miles away, explore the remains of its 12th Century Priory. 

The Beehive Barn is close to the Farne Islands, which are home to the seabird colonies 

Head inland to Alnwick Castle, the site of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films.
