A Central Texas man has been sentenced to 52 years in state prison for murdering his wife by beheading her in front of their two young children and storing her head in the freezer.

David Dauzat, 24, who is sometimes referred to as 'Davie,' pleaded guilty to murder on Friday for the August 2016 killing of Natasha Dauzat, 21, McLennan County Assistant District Attorney Michael Jarrett said. 

The mother-of-two was stabbed dozens of times with a knife at the couple's home in Bellmead, which is located northeast of Waco, authorities said. 

David Dauzat could be eligible for parole after serving 26 years.

David agreed to the plea deal because that’s what Natasha’s family requested, Jarrett said.

'They didn’t want to put the children through a trial and have them relive those memories,' Jarrett said. 

Police had visited the Dauzats' mobile home in the mid-morning hours of Aug. 25, 2016, after David's brother called the police at around 8.20 am Central and asked for a welfare check, KWTX reported.

The unidentified brother 'was concerned about… Davie’s well-being and wanted officers to locate and speak with Davie,' police said in a press release.

David Dauzat agreed to the plea deal because that’s what Natasha Dauzat’s family requested

An officer and a supervisor went to the Dauzats' home and spoke with both David and Natasha outside their residence.

'There was no indication from Natasha or Davie that either of them was in distress or in need of police intervention at that time,' police said.

'They both appeared calm and expressed their curiosity why the police were there.'

The officers determined at that time that there was no sign of trouble and then left the Dauzats at their residence.

The killing occurred while the couple's two young children, ages 1 and 2, were in the home

The brother then called police again about two hours later, saying David had told him that 'he killed his girlfriend,' police said.

Police returned and found Natasha Dauzat had been decapitated.

They were found uninjured, taken into protective custody, and eventually turned over to a relative.

Natasha Dauzat's introduction section on her personal Facebook account, which has been turned into a legacy account in her memory, reads:
