Man 'seeking help' for suspicious injuries dies on doorstep of Canberra home
Police are investigating the possible murder of a man who collapsed on the doorstep of a Canberra home, apparently seeking help for his injuries.
Police were made aware of a disturbance in Goodenia St in Rivett at about 5:30 am on Sunday, and arrived to find the man with severe injuries.
First-aid was rendered but the man died at the scene.
Detective Station Sergeant Matthew Reynolds from ACT police said it appeared the man had died at the front door of a house on the street.
"He was out at the front door of a house," he said.
"He's not from that address.
"It appears that he's just made his way to that location to seek assistance."
Detective Reynolds said he was not able to detail the nature of the man's injuries, but ruled out gunshot wounds and said they were suspicious.
He said residents of the street had been spoken to and were assisting with the investigation.
Police said residents at the house were "uninvolved" in the circumstances surrounding his death.
Goodenia St resident Bill Norton said he was shocked by the incident.
"It could have been my front yard ... or anybody's front yard," he said.
"You don't want to get up in the morning and find a body in your front yard.
"It's the quietest street in the area."
The man has not yet been identified.
