Google has launched three new photo editing apps as part of its new 'appsperimental' approach. The apps include Storyboard (pictured), a tool to transform your videos into a cartoon strip, Selfissimo!, a selfie photographer and Scrubbies, a video-looping app
Google announced the new apps in a blog this week.
Alex Kauffmann, an Interaction Researcher at Google Research wrote: 'Today, we're launching the first instalment of a series of photography appsperiments: usable and useful mobile photography experiences built on experimental technology.'
The apps build on other new technologies in development at Google.
Mr Kauffman said: 'They rely on object recognition, person segmentation, stylization algorithms, efficient image encoding and decoding technologies, and perhaps most importantly, fun!'
The first new app is Storyboard, which allows users to transform their videos into single-page comic layouts.
To use the app, film a video and load it in the Storyboard app.
The app will automatically select interesting video frames, lay them out and apply one of six visual styles.
If you're happy with the comic, you can save it, or if not, you can pull down to refresh and instantly produce a new one.
Mr Kauffmann added: 'There are approximately 1.6 trillion different possibilities!'
The second app is Selfissimo! – an automated selfie photographer that snaps a black and white photo each time you pose.
To start a photoshoot, tap the screen.

Finally, Google has launched Scrubbies, a video-looping app.
Mr Kauffmann explained: 'Scrubbies lets you easily manipulate the speed and direction of video playback to produce delightful video loops that highlight actions, capture funny faces, and replay moments.'
To use the app, shoot a video and remix it by scratching the screen like a DJ.

Google is now asking users to try the three new apps out and give feedback on them.
Mr Kauffmann added: 'The feedback and ideas we get from the new and creative ways people use our appsperiments will help guide some of the technology we develop next.'
