In the first half of Grandstand's review of 2017 we recap on the stunning year enjoyed by the Matildas and Sam Kerr, the Melbourne Storm's third NRL premiership, Winx's spring racing dominance, Ben Simmons' meteoric rise in the NBA and many other major sporting moments.

Matildas

Sam Kerr enjoyed a break-out year on the international stage with the Matildas.

The popularity and recognition of women's football in Australia skyrocketed this year thanks to the Matildas' dominance of the international scene.

Led by superstar Sam Kerr, the Matildas won the Tournament of Nations in the United States and defeated China and Brazil in friendlies on home soil.

David Warner smashed a century in the opening session of the SCG Test against Pakistan.
