Firefighter gives diamonds to girlfriend and her daughter in Christmas proposal

A firefighter stole the show at his town’s Christmas parade by popping the question to not only his girlfriend but also her daughter.

Matt Poliak of the Menomonie Fire Department in Wisconsin proposed to both his girls with diamond rings.

“There was no way she wasn’t going to be part of it,” Poliak, 33, told ABC News of his future stepdaughter.

He gave his bride-to-be, Grace Johnson, a sparkling diamond engagement ring and her 3-year-old daughter, Isla, a smaller diamond ring on a necklace.

“I was sitting at the jewelry store in Woodbury, Minnesota, and I knew I wanted to have something for her too when I was down on my knee for Grace,” said Poliak. “I wanted to show her she was important to the process. I got Grace’s ring picked out and I got a smaller, much, much, smaller diamond for Isla. It’s on a chain so she can wear it as a necklace.”

Johnson, 24, said this thoughtful behavior “is definitely Matt.”

“He is always thinking of not only me but also Isla,” she said. “That’s been amazing and so helpful for me for so many reasons. It was so sweet that he actually thought to ask her if she wanted to be a part of the family as well.”

The happy couple can’t wait to include Isla in a special role in their wedding.

“She’ll definitely walk down the aisle,” said Johnson. “I think she’s excited to wear a pretty dress. That’s her main goal.”
