Paris Hilton has once again taken credit for inventing the selfie, but Twitter isn't taking her bold claims lightly.
The 36-year-old socialite took to Twitter on Sunday to share two photos of herself posed with Britney Spears, writing: '11 years ago today, Me & Britney invented the selfie!'
The tweet prompted backlash from thousands of Twitter users who angrily shared photos of people taking selfies long before she was even born to disprove her claims.

A Twitter user known as 'ddsnorth' pointed out that the first selfie was actually taken in the 1800s when Robert Cornelius ran into the camera frame to take a picture of himself.
'This is the first ever photograph selfie in history, taken by Robert Cornelius in 1839. It's now in the collection of @librarycongress,' she wrote while posting the photo.
For those who would argue that a true selfie needs to be taken with a handheld camera, there is plenty of evidence to prove that Paris was still a 100 years away from being the first to do it.

However, this isn't the first time Paris has taken credit for the social media trend.
Six months ago, Paris claimed responsibility for the selfie during an interview with W Magazine in May.
'If a beeper had a camera, I would have taken a selfie with it,' she said, agreeing with the W interviewer's observation that she invented the photo technique — or, at the very least, popularized it.
'I think I have a selfie from when I was a little kid, like on a disposable camera,' she added.
She is, however, glad she got in at the ground floor with reality TV.
'Nowadays, everything is just so scripted and fake,' she said. 'Everything is planned out. There's nothing real, really. I'm glad that I did it in the beginning when it was organic and fun.'
This could be a slight dig at the Kardashians, who infamously reshoot scenes for their reality show — but Paris won't outright dis the famous family, despite only recently resolving a longtime feud with one-time employee Kim.
'I've known the family my whole life,' she said. 'They are all intelligent, beautiful business women and I'm proud of them and the brand they've built.'
