Actor Christopher Plummer has controversially expressed sympathy for disgraced Hollywood star Kevin Spacey, following numerous sexual misconduct allegations against the star.
The actor, set to replace Spacey in a forthcoming Ridley Scott thriller, said 'it's very sad what has happened to him,' in a recent interview.
Despite the outcry against the Oscar winning actor's alleged inappropriate sexual behaviour, Plummer, 87, said it is a 'shame' what has happened to Spacey.

'I think it's very sad what happened to him,' Plummer told Vanity Fair. 'Kevin is such a talented and a terrifically gifted actor, and it's so sad. It's such a shame. That's all I can say, because that's it.'
Adding: 'Although the situation is very sad. I'm very saddened by what happened to Kevin, but what can I do? I've got a role.'
The controversial opinion provoked an outcry online, as social media users flocked to Twitter to express their anger.
One user, Charlotte Arkell, said she was: 'Absolutely disgusted and ashamed of Plummer.'
Adding that Ridley Scott needed to recast Plummer too.
While another vented that the victims deserved sympathy and that Spacey was the perpetrator.
Another quoted Plummer's comments sarcastically and said: 'It's very sad what's happened to him? To HIM? Someone better fill Plummer in on the details [sic].'
